How do I get a library card?

We can sign you up for a library card while you wait. We require photo ID and proof of address. If your driver’s license does not have a local address, please bring a recent piece of mail that has your current address. Utility bills or rental agreements are perfect! We cannot accept junk mail or anything that says “current resident.”

Children can apply for their first library card at any age. Parents/guardians assume responsibility for materials signed out by children. Anyone under the age of 12 needs a parent’s or guardian’s signature for a library card.

New patrons are permitted to check out two items at a time for the first three months that they have their card.

If you have a card from another library in the North Country Library System, you can use it here at Bodman Memorial Library.

Click here for a list of all 66 member libraries of the North Country Library System.

You can also register for a library card on the North Country Library online catalog. Click here to register online.

Registering online gives you immediate access to online materials, but you will need to visit Bodman Memorial Library to get a physical library card so that you may sign out physical materials.

What is my PIN?

Your PIN is typically the last four digits of the telephone number associated with your account.

If you can log into the account using the last four digits of your phone number, you can change the PIN yourself. Log into the NCLS catalog, click on your name in the top right corner, select Account Portal, select Account, and then click the pencil icon next to your name.

If you cannot access your account by using the last four digits of your phone number, you will need to call the library for assistance. 315-642-3323

In either case – you will need to have your library card number handy to log onto your account. Your card number is the number under the barcode on the back of the library card. Enter the number with NO SPACES to log onto your account.

How long can I keep library materials?

We loan out new materials for fourteen days. Materials that are no longer considered new have a twenty-eight day loan period.

DVDs have a one week loan period.

Special items, like park passes, have special loan periods. Please ask at the circulation desk upon checkout.

Will I be charged late fees if I do not return materials on or before their due date?

We no longer charge fees for overdue materials. However, if you lose a book or drop it in your pancake batter (true story!) we typically ask you to provide us with a replacement item, or pay for the cost of the book. Please bring any damaged materials to the library so we can assess them. If the item does not belong to us, we will contact the owning library to find out how they want to proceed.

Certain items, such as park passes, have special circulation rules. Please be sure to ask at the circulation desk when you check out.

Interlibrary Loans

Do you want to read a book or borrow a DVD that we don’t have here? That’s easy. We can request it for you via interlibrary loan. We share materials with the other 65 libraries in our system. We get deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays. You can call us to place a hold for you, or you can do it yourself on the North Country Library System app!

Certain materials, like park passes and cake pans, are only available for in-person pick-up at the owning library. We can be reached at 315-642-3323 if you need help.

There’s an app for that!

The NCLS app is a great tool for keeping track of your checkouts, renewing items, placing holds, and more! In the app store it is called ‘North Country Libraries’.

You will need to know your library card number and your PIN to log into the app. Please call the library at 315-642-3323 if you need help.
